The Kennel
Philosophy
In every dog a wolf is present.
In following this philosophy, we at Conwenna want to re-enact the natural habitat of "the wolf" as much as possible. We do not like to keep them confined to (large) kennels. Instead the dogs roam the grounds as a pack. Whenever possible we try to work with their natural synergie as a pack. We try to address the dogs on their natural born instincts as much as possible and feasible. This means that the dogs enjoy (supervised) meals en sleep together in destined spaces.
However, saying this, we do realize that there are dogs who feel more secure in a bench or near people instead of their pack mates.
Unfortunately some dogs have turned from their own kind because of one or more bad experiences with other dogs in the past. We provide a place for these dogs too and they will be individually trained.
Entertainment
Several times a day we entertain the dogs by means of balls, frisbees and, in some cases, agility. By taking the physical and mental capabilities of every individual dog in account, we have created 4 different programs. Every program makes a distinction in size, age, breed and special need of each individual dog. Depending on the program, every dog spends an average of 6-8 hours outdoors.
At the bottom of this page you will find of programme classifications.
Meals
We feed our dogs Champ and Bento Cronen. Both brands are nutritious dried food and is generally liked by every dog. In some cases we also give additives like sheep fat or salmon oil.
Depending on individual dog’s usual schedule, he will be given at least 2 meals a day. Afterwards the dogs will rest so that they have the opportunity to digest their food. Of course, dogs that are fed another pet food or have specific dietary requirements will be given their own brand.
Unless otherwise indicated, dogs will be given chewing sticks, bones and treats.
Requirements
We kindly ask all our customers to bring only the bare necessities when they drop off their dogs. Even without their favourite toy or cloth the dog will quickly feel at home. This also prevents the loss of personal items and it will save all of us lot of frustration!
If need be you can consult us if you want to bring your dog’s own bench or food.
Accommodation Behavioral Therapy
At the farmhouse there is a assigned space where we keep large benches and dogbeds. But if need be, and only in exceptional cases, it is possible for dogs to sleep at our quarters on a dogbed or in a bench.
For the coming year we have plans to house other animals than dogs at Conwenna’s. Edwin Verwoert, their owner and our employee will be responsible for their care.
Check our our site regularly for more news on this.
